Anglo American Enters Final Stage of De Beers Sale
Anglo American is expected to complete the sale of De Beers within weeks, marking the final stage of its strategic exit from the diamond sector. The divestment follows a significant decline in De Beers’ performance, with sales falling from nearly $6.6 billion in 2022 to $3.5 billion in 2025, alongside lower production and a reduced valuation. Weak demand for natural diamonds, driven by softer luxury spending in China and the growing adoption of lab-grown diamonds in the U.S, has weighed on the market. Despite these challenges, De Beers continues to attract interest from investor groups involving African nations, Gulf capital, and industry executives.
